SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR NIKKI HALEY ENDORSES MITT ROMNEY

Boston, MA – Mitt Romney today announced the support of South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. Governor Haley will serve as Co-Chair of Romney for President’s National Steering Committee.

“It is an honor to have the endorsement of Governor Haley,” said Mitt Romney. “As a successful businesswoman who entered public service so government could better serve the people, Governor Haley’s career-long efforts to reform government, make government more accountable to the taxpayers, and fight wasteful spending should be examples for leaders across the country. These conservative principles of smaller government are what I am fighting for in my campaign and will be the basis for restoring economic prosperity and fiscal health.”

“The election next November will have ramifications for generations,” said Governor Nikki Haley. “Neither South Carolina nor the nation can afford four more years of President Obama, and Mitt Romney is the right person to take him on and get America back on track.  He is a conservative businessman who has spent his life working in the economy, and he understands exactly how jobs are created.  He is not a creature of Washington, and he knows what it means to make decisions – real decisions – not simply cast a vote.  Our country will need real leadership to undo President Obama’s failed policies, and replace them with the conservative principles Mitt Romney learned turning around businesses and a failing Olympics and successfully, conservatively governing a Democratic state. I am proud to endorse him and will work my hardest to ensure he is elected so we can turn around our country.”

Background On Governor Haley:

Governor Nikki Haley Is The 116th Governor Of South Carolina. Haley served as member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2010. Throughout her career in public service, Haley has been a conservative leader in the fight for smaller and more efficient government. In 2009, she was named “Friend of the Taxpayer” by the South Carolina Association of Taxpayers. Prior to her public service, Haley worked in her family’s business and helped it grow into a multi-million dollar company.

PRESS RELEASE from SC Democratic Party
Friday, December 16, 2011

Republican Governor Nikki Haley endorses Republican Candidate for President, Mitt Romney.

Today in South Carolina, Republican Nikki Haley endorsed Mitt Romney for President. The South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman, Dick Harpootlian, released the following statement and video in response to Haley's glowing endorsement:

When Mitt Romney looks in the mirror, he sees a stranger. Pro-choice Mitt wouldn't recognize anti-veteran affairs Mitt.  This endorsement seems to be a strange one, because Mitt can't stay straight on the issues while Haley only has one stance; the stance that is anti-South Carolinians and pro-Nikki Haley.

We also found out today that Nikki Haley is supporting a candidate that, like her, will say anything to get elected.  Lets just hope their name doesn't end up on the same ballot.

Statement from South Carolina State Representative Lonnie Hosey
on Nikki Haley's Endorsement of Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney

BARNWELL, S.C. - "After paying South Carolina little attention, Mitt Romney has finally come here to pick up his endorsement from Governor Nikki Haley. Haley's ratings are at an all-time low, and neither she nor Mitt Romney understands the middle class and the struggles of America's families, nor has the vision that President Obama has for the future of this country. Mitt is out of touch with what the people of South Carolina need, and he is not what we need here or in any of the other 49 states. We need a President who fights for an economy where you can make it if you work hard and everyone plays by the same rules, and President Obama is that President."

PRESS RELEASE from Democratic National Committee (corrected version...original version referred to super PAC rather than affiliated PACS)

South Carolina State Senator Vincent Sheheen’s Statement on Governor Nikki Haley’s Endorsement of Mitt Romney

It’s no surprise Nikki Haley has decided to endorse Mitt Romney, whose affiliated PACs contributed $62,000 to her gubernatorial campaign.  This morning, Haley explained her endorsement saying, ‘Romney is someone who knows what it's like to lead and make a decision.’ Like Haley, the only time Mitt Romney seems to know how to make a decision is when it proves to be politically convenient for him. Their decisions are based upon which way the political winds are blowing and everyone knows that Romney has flipped and flopped every step onto the presidential stage.

“Touting the endorsement of a governor who has been destroying public emails, refusing to release public documents, and sinking wildly in polls shows an astounding lack of good judgment by Romney if he really cares about winning in South Carolina.

“In her interview Haley says, ‘It was at that point, I can honestly tell you that I knew this was not the same person that I knew in 2008...’ Of course this is true, Mitt Romney is not the same candidate he was in 08’, 02’ or 1994. Like Haley, his core positions continue to shift even day to day depending on what’s in it for them.

“In 2002 he called himself a moderate politician with progressive views while in Iowa last week he called himself conservative.  If Mitt Romney thinks Newt Gingrich is unreliable it’s a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

“South Carolina deserves a straight shooter and it looks to me like South Carolina is once again getting the short end of the stick. Gov. Haley has been called by a prominent Republican “the most corrupt person to occupy the Governor’s Mansion since Reconstruction,” and her governance by secrecy has proven wildly unpopular. Just like Romney’s disastrous job record in MA , Gov. Haley has left South Carolina with one of the highest jobless rates in the country.

“She’s proven she’s just about as out of touch with the people she governs as Mitt Romney is with the American people. And their similarities don’t stop there- she’s taken a play right out of Gov. Romney’s playbook of dishonesty and secrets, scrubbing email communications from the record books and refusing to come clean. How can the people of South Carolina trust either of them? What are they hiding? Seems to me that Gov. Haley and Mitt Romney are on exactly the same page, the middle class and South Carolinians are on their own.”
