0 Electoral Votes 

(Residents of the commonwealths and territories cannot vote for president in the general election.  However, the sizable population of American citizens living abroad, including members of the uniformed services and their family members, can vote absentee.  According to the
United States Election Project, the estimated eligible overseas population for the Nov. 2012 general election was 4,737,600.  The Federal Voting Assistance Program helps these overseas citizens vote).

Governor: Alejandro Garcia Padilla (PDP) defeated Gov. Luis Fortuño (PNP) in a very close race by 896,060 votes (47.7%) to 884,775 (47.1%) and four other candidates dividing up the rest.
U.S. House: Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi (PNP) was re-elected, also in a very close race, defeating Rafael Cox Alomar (PDP) by 48.4% to 47.3%.
Ballot Measure: The two-question referendum on statehood left the issue muddled.  The first part asked, "Do you agree that Puerto Rico should continue to have its present form of territorial status?"  The second part asked, "Regardless of your selection in the first question, please mark which of the following non-territorial options would you prefer."  The choices were statehood, independence and sovereign free associated state.  See: ballot [PDF].

Caucus March 10-14, 2000.  Democrats Abroad received 6 at-large and one pledged party and elected official delegate votes to the Democratic National Convention.
