Statement on 2012 Virginia Republican Presidential Primary

Statement from the Republican Party of Virginia: 

"While we had hoped more candidates would have been on our ballot, the code of Virginia is clear on ballot access, and we want to congratulate both Governor Mitt Romney and Congressman Ron Paul for their efforts in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

 

Based on the results from today's primary:

  • Pending certification from the State Board of Elections, Virginia’s 13 At-large Delegates to the RNC Convention will be bound on the first ballot for Governor Mitt Romney as he achieved more than 50.01% of the vote statewide.
  • Pending certification by the State Board of Elections, 30 of Virginia’s Delegates to the RNC Convention will be bound on the first ballot for Governor Mitt Romney as he won a majority of the vote in the following Congressional Districts: Congressional District 1, Congressional District 2, Congressional District 4, Congressional District 5, Congressional District 6, Congressional District 7, Congressional District 8, Congressional District 9, Congressional District 10, and Congressional District 11.
  • Pending certification by the State Board of Elections, 3 of Virginia’s Delegates to the RNC Convention will be bound on the first ballot for Congressman Ron Paul as he won a majority of the vote in the 3rd Congressional District.

 

Virginia’s Delegate Allocation to the RNC Convention, pending certification from the State Board of Elections:

  • 43 Delegates will be pledged to Governor Mitt Romney
  • 3 Delegates will be pledged to Congressman Ron Paul

***Of note, since pre-clearance has not been given on Virginia’s redrawn Congressional lines, the lines that are in effect today, March 6, 2012, (and currently recognized by the State Board of Elections) will be the lines used to determined proportionality.
