GOV. BOREN ENCOURAGES
UNITY TICKET AT AMERICANS ELECT SIGNATURE FILING IN OKLAHOMA
Bipartisanship
needed
in Washington to avoid nation’s decline
OKLAHOMA CITY, FEBRUARY 28,
2012 - Former Oklahoma governor and U.S. Sen. David Boren today
joined
an Americans Elect volunteer delegate and student leader at the state
capitol to file nearly 90,000 signatures with the State Election Board
to put a line on the general election ballot for the organization’s
presidential ticket to be selected this June in the first-ever online
nominating convention.
Americans Elect collected nearly twice the 51,739 signatures required
by the state of Oklahoma for statewide ballot access.
Dissatisfaction with the current political system and recognition that
our nation is in severe trouble have provoked Gov. Boren to step
forward and join with Americans Elect and fellow Oklahomans to ensure
they have a third choice for president on the ballot this fall if
needed. Boren joins nearly 400,000 other Americans who have signed up
to become delegates at AmericansElect.org and participate in the
drafting of a candidate who they believe will put country before party
and elect a unity ticket this November.
“Those who signed this petition are sending a message to Democrats and
Republicans alike—stop wasting precious time fighting with each other
and start working together to solve our problems. We need a truly
bipartisan government, including a bipartisan cabinet, to bring all
Americans together in a united effort,” Gov. Boren said. “We need a
bipartisan presidential ticket that will embrace the main proposals of
the Simpson-Bowles Commission to stop the runaway budget deficits that
put our nation at risk. We need a ticket that will fight for a
constitutional amendment to stop the flood of special interest money
that threatens to destroy grassroots democracy.”
Americans Elect is the first online nominating process with a mission
to change the way America will nominate the next president of the
United States.
“Americans Elect welcomes and thanks Gov. Boren, a distinguished
leader, for his support,” said Elliot Ackerman, Americans Elect’s COO.
“Gov. Boren has been fighting to reform our political system for
decades. It is this kind of leadership our country is desperate for
today. Leadership that demands a bipartisan coalition whose priority is
to solve the country’s most pressing issues and putting an end to the
kind of partisanship which has hamstrung our nation today.”
If we can change the way we elect our leaders, we can change the way
they govern. At
AmericansElect.org
every registered voter can become a delegate and participate in
drafting candidates, developing the Platform of Questions the
candidates are required to address and vote in a national online
convention in June.

AMERICANS
ELECT
PLACES GOV. GARY JOHNSON
ON PRESIDENTIAL BALLOT IN OKLAHOMA
August 8, 2012, Santa Fe, NM — The nonpartisan organization Americans
Elect has
submitted the names of presidential electors to the Oklahoma State
Board
of Elections who have pledged to support former New Mexico Governor and
Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson for President and Judge Jim
Gray for Vice President. The nomination by Americans Elect ensures that
Gov. Johnson's name will be on the November ballot in Oklahoma.
Due
to ongoing litigation over ballot access, Gov. Johnson's inclusion
on the presidential ballot in Oklahoma was otherwise in dispute.
Applauding
Americans Elect's action, Johnson said, "It is vital that voters in
every state have real choices in November, choices that are not
narrowed
down for them by the two so-called major parties. That is why I am
running, and that is what I believe Americans Elect is about. The
Americans Elect Oklahoma party deserves
tremendous credit for making certain that voters
in Oklahoma will not be held hostage by arbitrary ballot access rules
designed to limit their choices.
"We
have pledged to overcome every partisan obstacle in order to be on the
ballot in every state, and I am grateful to Americans Elect for taking
an important step toward ensuring a truly free and open election."
The Johnson-Gray ticket is planning to be on the ballot in all 50
states and the District of Columbia.

About
presidential candidate Gary Johnson: Gary Johnson, two-term governor of
New Mexico from 1995-2003, has been a consistent advocate for limited,
efficient government and personal liberty. Johnson switched from the
Republican Party to the Libertarian Party on Dec. 28, 2011. As the
Libertarian Party nominee, Johnson will appear on all 50 states'
ballots. An outspoken pro-Constitution Libertarian, Johnson would end
the war in Afghanistan now. He opposes the failed multi-billion dollar
war on drugs and demands greater transparency at the Federal Reserve.
As president, Johnson would cut federal spending by 43 percent, slash
debt and make government live within its means while reducing taxes and
regulation to foster real job creation and economic opportunity like he
did in eight years as governor. The National Review said he was "#1" in
job creation as governor. An avid skier and bicyclist, he has reached
the highest peaks on four of the seven continents, including Mount
Everest.
