Roemer 2012 Exploratory Committee

SC GOP Debate - #01. Introduction +
1:20 web video released May 6, 2011.

Roemer: Good night and welcome to the debate.  I'm Buddy Roemer and I'm not in the debate.  I wish I were.  We just got started about 50 days ago with our exploratory committee and the rules of the debate were you had to have one or two percent or more in five national polls.  We just made the last poll; we were two-percent in that poll.  So we didn't quite qualify for this debate but we'll make the next one.

Let me make a prediction tonight before this debate is even held.  The most important issue in this campaign will not be discussed or asked tonight.  I'll tell you what it is.  Money in politics.  Washington, DC can't grow jobs, Washington, DC can't do health care reform, Washington, DC can't do bank reform, Washington, DC can't fix America.  You know why?  The big money, special interest Wall Street guys, pharmaceutical guys, insurance guys own the politicians in Washington.  You and I are played for a sucker.  It's a set up deal; it's a rigged deal.  That's why you have a tax code that no one can read.

I bet the question won't be asked tonight.  I'd love to ask it.  Where do you get your money?

SC GOP Debate - #22. Closing Remarks +
1:28 web video released May 6, 2011.

Roemer: They've asked us to close.  The most important issue in American politics was not even asked tonight.  The issue that will decide the future of our country was not even brought up.  Money in politics.  Fewer than one-percent of all the people in America give a dime to a presidential candidate.  And its those one-percent who get all the favors, who get the loopholes, who don't pay taxes like GE, who get bailed out of problems, who get bailed out if they're banks.  Too big to fail.  It's the money in politics.  Washington, DC spent more money, gave more money to a presidential candidate four years ago than 32 states combined.  Look, I've got the beginning of an answer.  A hundred dollar limit.  Everything reported.  No PAC money.  No secrets.  If I can get one American out of a hundred to do that, that'll be enough money to win the primary.  $300 million.  And then we'll turn and face President Obama and have ten debates across America on these issues beginning with the money in politics.  And there I need two out of a hundred.  I want a president free to lead a rising America.  It's the money that runs Washington.  You've got no chance.

Notes: Roemer recorded his answers to questions in the May 5 South Carolina debate live during the debate and posted them in 22 videos the next morning.
