"Obama Isn't Working: New Hampshire"
+
2:34 web video from July 14, 2011.
Obama (Denver, CO, Aug. 28, 2008): “We Democrats have a very different measure of what constitutes [SFX] progress in this country. We measure [SFX] progress by how many people can find a job that pays the mortgage. Whether you can put a little extra money away at the end of each month so you can someday watch your child receive her college diploma.”
Text: “THREE YEARS LATER”
[Music] Packy Campbell (Rochester, NH):
“At
this
point
it’s
just my wife and I left here in the business but at one
point we had about 35 employees. So it’s really an example of how the
economy has turned in that we have a lot of empty space. This is 4,500
square foot building and we are using about 1,000 square feet.
I’m Packy
Campbell. I’m the broker owner of RSA Realty & Development. Father
of five, happily married for fifteen years. The business that I own is
a real estate business and obviously very much affected by what’s
happened in the economy.
This sector is hit so hard because of all the
job losses and because that people can’t afford their houses.
Unemployment is still over 9 percent. I don’t see
the economy as
getting better.
Right now, I think the government’s trying too
hard to
help and it’s kind of like when I’m doing a job and someone’s trying to
help me and they’re being counterproductive. I paint a lot of houses, a
lot of apartments myself. If you ever paint with somebody who doesn’t
know what they’re doing, it’s like sooner or later you say ‘Hey, stop,
you’re making a mess, you’re getting paint everywhere.’ And that’s kind
of what the government’s doing to the economy right now is they’re just
making a mess everywhere.
Literally you’re coming in here, last week
was ground zero for me, you know. I had to file my own personal
bankruptcy. I had to close my business. For me I look at holding onto
my business and not giving up and working through my bankruptcy and
continuing to show up every day.
I’d like to take my kids to, you know,
Disney World. My kids would love to go. They deserve a vacation this
summer, but we can’t. They have to – at their young age – learn that
lesson and know that I love them, and know that we can’t do everything
that we want to do.
God Bless America is not – to me – the end of a good presidential speech and it’s not a tagline. It’s a patriotic and it’s a way of life, that you have to believe in something beyond yourself because that’s going to give, it gives me the strength to know that there’s nothing I can’t handle, there’s nothing I can’t overcome as long as I don’t give up.”
