FIRST UNOFFICIAL HUCKABEE FOR PRESIDENT CAMPAIGN BLOG FOUNDED FEB. 14,2005 This blog was created and is maintained by people completely unconnected to Mike Huckabee, or any person or organization affiliated with Mike Huckabee. This is a grass roots effort to build awareness for-and support of-Mike Huckabee should he decide to run.

By Scott Crider (Blue State Republican).  First postings on Feb. 14, 2005.

>The first posting on Feb. 14, 2005 had a brief introduction and noted, "The purpose of this blog over the coming months will be to collect Mike Huckabee information and make it easy for what is sure to be a growing number of supporters to find and comment on."
A second Feb. 14 posting, "Mike Huckabee the Role Model," linked to a USA Today article noting that Huckabee had lost 100 pounds.

>From a Nov. 23, 2008 posting on ScottCrider.com:

As publisher of the Mike Huckabee President 2008 blog, which I later learned was the very first candidate blog in the 2008 presidential election, I had the incredible experience of seeing my friend go from being virtually unknown to winning the Iowa Caucus and being the last candidate standing between John McCain and the GOP nomination for president of the United States. I had a lot of interesting experiences along the way.

Before there was an official Huckabee campaign, I was contacted by main stream media representatives seeking information and interviews with Huckabee (which I passed along to people I knew where in touch with him daily), as well as people looking for a candidate to support. I also had the pleasure of creating the blogroll "Bloggers for Huckabee," which soon outpaced my ability to keep up with it. As soon as there was an official campaign blog I offered it them to manage, where it eventually numbered in the many hundreds of bloggers.

By the time Gov. Huckabee ended his campaign, MHP2008 had received well over 500,000 visits and thousands upon thousands of positive comments. Mixed in with that were lots and lots of hateful and obscene comments from trolls coming in from everywhere, rival campaigns included. I couldn't keep up with moderating all of the comments as a volunteer blogger, so I switched them off. My apologies to those of you who were disappointed to see comments go away. It saddened me, too.
