August 26-28, 2010--Americans for Prosperity's fourth Defending the American Dream Summit at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel drew about 2,400 people.  Most of the activity occurred on August 27; highlights of the meeting included speeches by Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA), Dick Morris and Herman Cain and the "Tribute to Ronald Reagan" dinner featuring speeches by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and columnist George Will.  On August 28 attendees took buses to the Glenn Beck rally.  (Photo above shows Lynda Howard of Claremont, NH).
Americans for Prosperity and Americans for Prosperity Foundation claim more than one million activists in all 50 states.  The group started in late 2003 and has grown to 31 state chapters.  During the health care debate, AFP organized a "Hands Off My Health Care" bus tour.  In March, following passage of the health care reform bill, AFP launched its "November is Coming" campaign, and the "November is Coming" bus has been traveling the country this summer.  AFP is also behind the "Spending Revolt National Tour."  AFP and AFP Foundation have also been running ads, prompting President Obama to single the group out by name.
Americans for Prosperity Chairman David H. Koch is the billionaire co-owner of Koch Industries.  In 1980 he was the Libertarian Party vice presidential nominee.
