The snow plant (Sarcodes sanguinea, Wintergreen family) is a parasitic plant. It has no chlorophyll, and instead draws its nutrients from a fungus that extends from its roots out into the surrounding leaf litter and soil (>). There were at least a dozen of these along the Dewey Point trail. |
