Hawaii [+] BALLOT [PDF][State Primary August 11]

U.S. Senate: Sen. Daniel Akaka's retirement created an open seat.  In what was initially expected to be a close race, Rep. Mazie Hirono (D) defeated former Gov. Linda Lingle (R) by 61.6% to 36.8%
U.S. House: Rep. Hirono's run for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate made an open seat in CD2; Honolulu City Councilwoman Tulsi Gabbard (D) held the seat garnering 76.8% of the vote.  In the CD1 rematch, Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D) defeated former Rep. Charles Djou (R) by 53.5% to 44.4%

Post-election: On Dec. 17, Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-HI) died; Gov. Abercrombie (D) announced on Dec. 26 his selection of Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz (D) for the position.

Idaho [+] BALLOT [PDF][State Primary August 28]

Registered Voters: 895,834.
U.S. House:  In the 1st CD freshman Rep. Raúl Labrador (Rr defeated retired NFL wide receiver Jimmy Farris (D) by 63.0% to 30.8% with LP of Idaho chair Rob Oates (L) and Pro-Life (I) rounding out the field.  In the 2nd CD Rep. Mike Simpson (R) defeated former state Sen. Nicole LeFavour (D) by 65.1% to 34.8%.
State Legislature:  Republicans maintained huge majorities in both chambers.  All 70 House seats and all 35 Senate seats were up.  The balance stayed at House 57R, 13D and Senate 28R, 7D. 
Ballot Measures:  Voters approved two constitutional amendments and defeated three referendum questions - IDSOS

Illinois [+] BALLOT [PDF][State and Presidential Primary March 20]

Registered Voters: 7,346,413.
U.S. House: Illinois' delegation is reduced by one, from 19 to 18 due to reapportionment.  One incumbent lost in the primary (Manzullo (R)), two retired (Costello (D) and Johnson (R)), and four were defeated, all Republicans (Biggert, Walsh, Dold and Schilling) taking the balance from 11R, 8D to 12D, 6R.  The state is sending six new members: 8. T.Duckworth (D), 10. B.Schneider (D), 11. B.Foster (D), 12. B.Enyart (D), 13. R.Davis (R) and 17. C.Bustos (D).  [new CD numbers]
CD 16 (North Central and Western Illinois including Joliet) - Reapportionment forced an incumbent on incumbent race.  In the new district Rep. Don Manzullo (R), first elected Nov. 1992, lost to freshman Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R) in the March 20 primary. 
CD 12 (Southwest Illinois-Carbondale) - Rep. Jerry Costello (D), first elected in 1988, announced in Oct. 2011 that he would not seek re-election.  Bill Enyart (D), an attorney who recently retired as Illinois adjutant general, defeated Jason Plummer (R), the 2010 Republican nominee for Illinois Lieutenant Governor and vice president of corporate development at R.P. Lumber Company, by 157,000 (51.65%) to 129,902 (42.74%) and 17,045 (5.61%) for Paula Bradshaw (G). 
CD 13 (SW Central Illinois including Springfield and Decatur) - Rep. Tim Johnson (R) won the March 20 primary in new CD-13, but announced on April 5 that he would instead retire; on May 19 the 14 county GOP chairs chose Rodney Davis (R), who served as projects director to Rep. Shimkus, as their candidate; Davis faced David Gill (D), an ER doctor who had run before.  The result was a squeaker, with Davis edging Gill by 137,034 (46.55%) to 136,032 (46.21%) and 21,319 (7.24%) for John Hartman (I).
CD 8 - 2006 nominee Tammy Duckworth (D) defeated freshman Rep. Joe Walsh (R) by 123,206 (54.74%) to 101,860 (45.26%).
CD 10 - Management consultant Brad Schneider (D) defeated freshman Rep. Robert Dold (R) by 133,890 (50.63%) to 130,564 (49.37%).
CD 11 - Former Rep. Bill Foster (D) achieved a comeback, defeating Judy Biggert (R) by 148,928 (58.57%) to 105,348 (41.43%).
CD 17 (Northwest Illinois) - Former East Moline Alderwoman Cheri Bustos (D) defeated freshman Rep. Bobby Schilling (R) by 153,519 (53.28%) to 134,623 (46.72%).
State Legislature: Democrats strengthen their control over both chambers of the General Assembly.  All 118 House seats and 59 Senate seats were up.  The House went from 64D, 54R to 71D, 47R and the Senate from 35D, 24R to 40D, 19R. 
Ballot Measure:  One proposed constitutional amendment requiring a three-fifths vote by governing bodies to increase public pension or retirement systems. 

Post-election: In the 2nd CD, Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. was handily re-elected, but announced his resignation on Nov. 21.

State loses one U.S. House seat.  Democrats pick up four U.S. House seats.

Indiana [+] BALLOT [PDF][State and Presidential Primary May 22]

Registered Voters: 4,555,257.
Governor:  Vying to succeed Gov. Mitch Daniels (R), Rep. Mike Pence (R) and state Rep. Sue Ellspermann defeated former state Speaker of the House John Gregg (D) and state Senate Minority Leader Vi Simpson and businessman, and former "Survivor" contestant Rupert Boneham (L) and Brad Klopfenstein by 1,275,424 (49.49%) to 1,200,016 (46.56%) and 101,868 (3.95%).
U.S. Senate: Rep. Joe Donnelly (D) defeated State Treasurer Richard Mourdock (R) and Andrew Horning (L), who works in cardiovascular healthcare, by 1,281,181 (50.03%) to 1,133,621 (44.27%) and 145,282 (5.67%).  Mourdock had defeated six-term Sen. Dick Lugar in the May 20, 2012 Republican primary by 60.5% to 39.5%.
U.S. House:  Indiana had three open seats.  Republicans picked up one seat going from 6R, 3D to 7R, 2D.
- In the 2nd CD (North Central Indiana ...Donnelly), former state Rep. Jackie Walorski (R), the 2010 nominee, defeated veteran and consultant Brendan Mullen (D), and Joe Ruiz (L). by a bit less than 3,920 votes, 49.01% to 47.58% and 3.41%.
- In the 5th CD (north of Indianapolis, between but not including Kokomo and Muncie ...Burton), former U.S. Attorney Susan Brooks (R) defeated state Rep. Scott Reske (D) and high school teacher Chard Reid (L) by a comfortable margin.
- In the 6th CD (Southeast Indiana ...Pence), former state Rep. Luke Messer (R), who ran for Congress in 2010, defeated homebuilder Brad Bookout (D) and Rex Bell (L), a carpenter.
State Legislature: All 100 House seats and 25 Senate seats were up.  Republicans expanded their majority in the House from 60R, 40D to 69R, 31D while the Senate remained at 37R, 13D.

Republicans pick up one U.S. House seat.

Iowa [+] BALLOT [PDF][State Primary June 5]

Registered Voters: 3,074,186.
U.S. House: Redistricting reduced Iowa from five to four CDs.  In the new 3rd CD two incumbents faced off against each other; Rep. Tom Latham (R) defeated Rep. Leonard Boswell (D) by 202,000 votes (52.22%) to 168,632 (43.59%); two other candidates also ran.  The race in the 4th CD attracted some attention; Rep. Steve King (R) fended off a challenge from former First Lady Christie Vilsack (D) by 200,063 votes (52.94%) to 169,470 (44.85%).  The balance went from 3D, 2R to 2D, 2R.
State Legislature: All 100 House seats and 26 Senate seats were up.  Control of the legislature remained split.  Republicans maintained control of the House with a reduced majority (from 59R, 40D and 1v to 53R, 47D) while Democrats kept narrow control in the Senate (from 26D, 24R to 26D, 23R and 1v).

Kansas [+] BALLOT [PDF][State Primary August 17]

Registered Voters: 1,771,539.
U.S. House:
All four Members were re-elected, three with comfortable margins and Huelskamp unopposed.
State Legislature: All 125 House seats and all 40 Senate seats were up.  Republicans kept huge majorities in both chambers; the House went from 92R, 33D to 90R, 35D and Senate 32R, 8D to 31R, 9D.
Ballot Measure: Voters approved a constitutional amendment on taxation of watercraft.

Kentucky [+] BALLOT [PDF][State and Presidential Primary May 22]

Registered Voters: 3,037,153.
U.S. House:
In the 4th CD, Rep. Geoff Davis (R) is retiring; Lewis County Judge Executive Thomas Massie (R) defeated engineer and attorney Bill Adkins (D).  In the 6th CD attorney Andy Barr (R) prevailed in the rematch against Rep. Ben Chandler (D) by 153,222 (50.57%) to 141,438 (46.68%) and 8,340 (2.75%) to Rudolph Vance.  The delegation goes from 4R, 2D to 5R, 1D.
State Legislature: All 100 House seat and 19 Senate seats were up.  Control remained split; Democrats kept the House with a reduced majority (from 59R, 40R, 1v to 55R, 45D) and Republicans kept the Senate (from 22R, 15D, 1I to 22R, 14D, 1I and 1v).

Louisiana [+] BALLOT [PDF][Blanket Primary November 6]

Registered Voters: 2,965,751.
U.S. House: Reapportionment cost the state one seat, forcing a member on member race in the new 3rd CD (Southwest Louisiana) between Rep. Jeff Landry (R) and Rep. Charles Boustany Jr. (R).  As no candidate achieved more than 50% of the vote on Nov. 6, the race went to a Dec. 8 runoff.  Boustany defeated Landry by 61% to 39%; turnout was a low 17.6%.

Maine [+] BALLOT [PDF][State Primary June 12]

Registered Voters: 1,329,192.
U.S. Senate: Former Gov. Angus King (I) (51.13%) defeated Secretary of State Charlie Summers (R) (29.72%) and state Sen. Cynthia Dill (D) (12.82%) as well as Andrew Ian Dodge (L) (0.78%), Danny Dalton (I) (0.80%), Steve Woods (I) (1.42%) and blank (3.33%).
U.S. House: Both Democratic incumbents won their House races fairly easily.  In CD1, Rep. Chellie Pingree (D) defeated State Senate Majority Leader Jon Courtney (R).  In CD 2, Rep. Mike Michaud (D) defeated State Senate President Kevin Raye (R).
State Legislature: Heading into Nov. 6, Republicans held narrow majorities in both chambers (House 77R, 70D, 2I, 2v and Senate 19R, 15D, 1I), but that changed rather dramatically.  All 151 House seats and all 35 Senate seats were up.  Democrats gained control of both chambers, taking the House to 89D, 58R, 4I and the Senate to 19D, 15R, 1I.
Ballot Measures: Maine voters approved Question 1, the citizen initiative on same-sex marriage, by 372,887 votes (52.70%) to 334,723 (47.30%).  Mainers United for Marriage  |  Protect Marriage Maine.  Voters also approved three of four bond questions, supporting measures on natural resources, transportation infrastructure, and drinking water systems and wastewater, while rejecting a measure on higher education.

Republicans lose  one U.S. Senate seat (to Independent).  Democrats pick up two legislative chambers.

Maryland [+] BALLOT [PDF][State and Presidential Primary April 3]

Registered Voters: 3,694,527.
U.S. Senate: Sen. Ben Cardin (D), seeking a second term, defeated Daniel Bongino (R), a former policeman and Secret Service special agent, businessman Rob Sobhani (I), and Dean Ahmad (L) by 56.0% to 26.3%, 16.4% and 1.2%.
U.S. House: In the 6th CD (Western Maryland), businessman John Delaney (D) defeated veteran incumbent Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R) by 58.8% to 37.9%.  The delegation goes from 6D, 2R to 7D, 1R.
Ballot Measures: Maryland voters decided seven ballot measures including several controversial ones:
-Approved Question 4 providing for in-state tuition rates for undocumented immigrants, by 58.9% to 41.1%.  (Help Save Maryland | Educating Maryland Kids)
-Approved Question 5, keeping the congressional redistricting plan, by 64.1% to 35.9%.
-Approved Question 6, the Civil Marriage Protection Act, allowing same sex marriage, by 52.4% to 47.6%. (Maryland Marriage Alliance | Marylanders for Marriage Equality);
-Approved Question 7, expanding commercial gaming, by 51.9% to 48.1%.
