Ed. Notes

>In response to an e-mail, Jonathon Strong offered the following observations (3/29):

Although I'm Canadian, I love American politics.  I also lived and worked in the US for 6 years, some of which was spent working for a State Representative in Florida.

I became a fan of Newt for his big ideas and ability to offer solutions to the big challenges facing America and the world.  Running the site can be a challenge.  When doing it as a hobby, it's hard to make time to put up posts, but I enjoy it since it provides a channel to be involved and active.

>This blog has been going on and off for 4 1/2 years, and provides an interesting retrospective of some of Gingrich's activities over that time.  The first postings on August 3, 2006 consisted of an excerpt from a Gingrich article on a Third World War, and Gingrich's biography, reprinted from Newt.org.

In the 2006-07 postings one sees the 2008 campaign developing and Newt's flirtation with a run in that cycle.  On Sept. 10, 2006 Strong Conservative noted that he has been "asked to blog for www.draftnewt.org which seeks to encourage Newt Gigngrich to run as the Republican candidate in 2008."  (On Sept. 15 Matt May, a Michigan blogger, joined as a contributor).  In a March 29, 2007 posting, "Gingrich Would Offer A Real Choice for Conservatives" Strong Conservative wrote, "As the campaign trail wears on, conservative voters might return to a name and person they can trust to hold true to conservative values: strong national security, common sense in government, and fiscal discipline. Newt should be that candidate."  A May 14, 2007 posting proclaimed "'Great Possibility' Newt Will Run," and on Sept. 12 it was "Newt Hints at Bid for White House."  After the Sept. 30 posting, "Newt: Not Running," the number of postings fell to a trickle. On Oct. 24 he blogged, "I'm trying to decide between Giuliani, Thompson, and Huckabee. I have concerns with all three, but would any of them over Clinton or Obama. yikes..." and on Jan. 10, 2008 "Since Newt Is Out, I'm Backing Rudy."

There were no postings for about 15 months from June 11, 2008, then on Oct. 6, 2009 very sporadic activity resumed with "Newt Presents Health Care Solutions," a video clip from FOX News.  Regular activity on the blog resumed in August 2010.  As of March 26, 2010 he most recent post is March 10 "Gingrich Leans Towards an Official Yes."
