Examples of Early Romney Oppo from the Democrats
Democrats launched a number of creative and more serious jabs at the perceived frontrunner former Gov. Mitt Romney.
-On Nov. 17, 2011 the DNC filed a public
records request with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for Romney
Administration email correspondence. On Nov. 21, 2011 the DNC
filed two additional public
records requests.
-DNC memos: Oct. 3, 2011,
Oct. 28, 2011.
-On Oct. 10, 2011 the DNC announced a new website, www.WhichMitt.com. An email from Brad Woodhouse (subject line: "Test your knowledge: Take the Mitt quiz") noted, "It's one thing for a politician's positions to evolve over time. It's another to flip back and forth over the course of a 20-year political career based on what office you're running for and where. And that's exactly what Romney has shown: He has no core convictions or values. With him, it's all just politics."
-On July 14, 2011 the NHDP and the
Alabama Democratic Party filed an amended FEC complaint against Romney (+).
-Starting on the evening of June 30, 2011
the DNC pounded away at Romney over his remark that, "I
didn’t say that things are worse…. What I said was that economy hasn’t
turned around." Romney has been emphasizing the economy and
charging that President Obama made things worse. One headline
termed this a "mega flip-flop." In any event, the DNC issued a
steady stream of rapid response releases pointing out various news
organizations' coverage of the
remark, in addition to producing a video.

After getting caught red-handed by numerous fact checkers, Mitt Romney last night changed his story on whether the economy has gotten worse. But instead of admitting he had it wrong, he just denies he ever made the claim – trying to hide one mistruth by simply telling another. Unfortunately for him, we do have newspapers, video and Google. So Mitt Romney, Let me Google that For You.
“The fact is that Mitt Romney was plain wrong on the economy, and instead of admitting it, he is compounding the problem by making another ridiculously false statement,” said DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse. “Mitt Romney has a well-deserved reputation for flip-flopping and misleading voters about his previous statements and positions – but this really takes the cake. Not only can you not count on Mitt Romney to stand by what he said in the last campaign or in the last year – you literally can’t count on him to stand by what he said in the same week. The only question now is – what will Mitt Romney say tomorrow?”

-On June 1, 2011 the DNC presented "A
Yearbook of (Past) Supporters who Flipped on Romney." This was a
page designed to look like a page out of a high school yearbook.
It showed 31 people
who had supported Romney in his 2008 campaign
and
are
now
supporting
or
working
for
other
candidates
or
are
uncommitted.

-On May 31, 2011, the NHDP announced "Two Sides of Mitt Romney"
T-Shirts which supporters could get for a donation of $30 or
more. Promotional copy urged readers to "Help your
friends decide who to cast their ballots for by showing them one set of
Romney's positions on the front of the shirt - and another set of his
policy positions on the back."

-On April 29, 2011,
the NHDP announced an FEC complaint against Romney (+).
-The health care reform legislation
Romney
signed into law on April 12, 2006 is seen as one of his biggest
liabilities among
Republican primary voters, and Democrats enjoyed making a few pokes on
the issue.
To mark the fifth anniversary of the law, on April 12, 2011 Democratic
parties in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Iowa organized events
featuring
cakes to thank Romney (+).
