Conservative Activists Rally to Roll Back Big Government, Repeal
Obamacare and Reclaim the White House in 2012 > |

February 11, 2011--Sen. John
Thune (R-SD) arrives for his speech.

Unlike some of the other
individuals mentioned as possible 2012 presidential prospects, Thune
hasn't been doing a lot of high profile manoeuvering; he noted
that he hasn't held a book signing, trekked to Iowa or appeared on
reality TV shows. In his speech Thune emphasized "limited
government, fiscal
responsibility, and personal accountability." "President Obama
likes to talk about winning the future," Thune said. "But someone
ought to tell
him: You can’t win the prosperity of tomorrow if you’re
mortgaging it
to pay for the big government programs of today." [prepared remarks]

Thune referenced his wife
Kimberley, who watched the speech from the front row, several
times. Following his narrow loss in his 2002 Senate race, she
been adamantly opposed to another campaign, but when the opportunity
arose in 2004 she came around. Thune said, "It’s
important to be out there and fighting for what we believe in.
She was
right then, and she’s right now."
